The ignisnet Manifesto
v1.0
What is ignisnet
ignisnet can be thought of as a fork in the road. It is a place where you make a conscious decision.
Within ignisnet, as with most static sites, the visitor abandons all physical identity. The visitor enters a space where no standards exist, no conformity is demanded, and has no expectations of the visitor. The visitor simply exists in an ephemeral frame.
The core basis of ignisnet is the fact that it is deeply opinionated. Yet, it will never expect the visitor to agree with the content, nor does it care if you disagree. ignisnet does not exist to validate the visitor, nor does it exist to be validated by the visitor. It will never fit into one label, as labels are too restrictive for the scope of ignisnet.
The environment in which ignisnet exists
We live in a grim reality, one where humanity has been stripped of its escapes.
People harbor quiet, burning desires: to disappear, to go fishing, to camp, to be something great, to be happy. We long to escape the corporate machine and live for ourselves rather than live merely to secure an income. We want to love out of our own volition, expect nothing from others, and simply exist. However, the real world is quite rigid: we must wake up, work, consume, pay bills, and sleep. We accept these as the conditions of living in a society and truths of physical survival.
But ignisnet believes the internet was not meant to mirror this, it was meant to be different.
The internet was born as a decentralised network connecting independent nodes, which made it ungovernable by design.
ignisnet questions why must we make a decentralised ungovernable network into one that strips users of their agency. Why must we make an account for every site? Why do we rotate between the same corporate websites for entertainment? Why do we pay for subscriptions we barely need, and submit our IDs for verification? Why did we accept "convenience" at the absolute cost of our privacy and safety?
While it is a common saying to state "corporations are evil and driven only by profits," this goes beyond the political saying. People do not realise how deep the rot follows. They do not see what lies beneath the abstractions of "encryption, passwords, and accounts" used to sanitize and control digital identities.
Indifference of ignisnet
ignisnet has no function or interest in abstractions.
ignisnet features no accounts. The visitor will encounter this space; they can bookmark it, close the tab, copy its source, explore the depth, or make fun of how ugly it is. ignisnet is indifferent to that choice.
ignisnet offers no dopamine boosts. The design of this page is not engineered for user retention. We offer stylised text content, we offer reflection.
It is important to note:
- We do not belong to a corporation.
- We have no need to collect your data.
- We have no need for profit (it's really cheap to upkeep a site if you don't rely on trackers!)
- We are just a website.
Let the internet be ungovernable again. Fight against centralization, to spying, to mass surveillance, to censorship. Expose and recognise the institutions that exploit you. Perhaps after that, we will finally feel in control of a single aspect of our lives; the fact that we chose to visit this site.
No algorithm keeps the visitor here, nobody forces the visitor to scroll or like or share. The visitor chose this. The decision of whether the visitor is satisfied with their choice depends only on them.
Poisoning of the people
We believe that governments have turned a blind eye to the poisoning of generations by the corporations that run the centralized web.
The unmoderated proliferation of short-form content is rotting minds. A significant portion of Gen Alpha is behind in basic reading and mathematical proficiency. Thus, ignisnet questions why in an era where knowledge is easier to access than at any point in history, are literacy and education freefalling?
We believe that this decay is a result of government failure. Instead of holding the corporations accountable for their predatory business models, the state chooses to enforce their own agenda using these toxic tools. End-users suffer while conglomerates are protected.
ignisnet rejects this hypocrisy. We believe that people must reclaim their anonymity online. It is not the job of any platform to enforce age compliance through mass surveillance or storage of sensitive data; it is the job of parents to parent, and individuals to choose how they handle their information.
Liberty over Anarchy
ignisnet cannot be fit inside a label, but to clarify any misattributions here is an incomplete list of things we are not.
- Authoritarian
- Socialist
- Communist
- Libertarian
- Fascist
We will not demand anything of you, but we will always hold onto our right to our own opinions. We will never force you to conform to our ideas, continuing to browse is your choice, not ours.
We do not care for followers; we seek to create a safe space for sovereign individuals while sharing pieces of our own mind.
We believe the internet should be free, but self-governance is also a must. Much like alcohol, the responsibility of consumption is up to the individual. The visitor decides how to browse and interpret this site, provided they possess the maturity and capacity to do so.
Freedom is not anarchy.
Furthermore, we choose isolation. We do not optimise for SEO, and while we do exist alongside the web revival, indie web and similar projects, we do not associate our opinions with them. There may be a large overlap, but since some opinions are our own that are not shared amongst these groups, we decided that this manifesto was necessary. ignisnet is its own section of the web. We do not affirm anyone, unless explicitly mentioned that we do.
Advocacy
The visitors of ignisnet will feel at home if they share the same love we do for:
- Abolition of Subscription models: We support lifetime licenses and one-time purchases.
- Open source software: Software must be auditable, and owned by the user.
- Piracy: We advocate for the active disruption of corporate data-harvesting models. With the sole exception of indie developers/artists. (Pirate, but don't forget your morality)
- Privacy: We believe in teaching people how to control their identity online.
You are here because you chose to be, act like it.
